The 7 Steps to Getting New Students
Everyone talks about how to improve your marketing
effort by giving you ideas of what works and what does
not. Sometimes the best ways are the simplest
ways. The simplest way to bring in new business is
to systemize your marketing effort and do it over and
over. If your birthday parties are not bringing in
new students, it is not necessarily because it doesn’t
work, but maybe you don’t know how to make it work.
If your Lead Boxes or your ads are not working, it also
doesn’t mean that these sources of marketing are no
longer good for you. In order to bring in results,
you must be willing to analyze your system and adjust it
until it works. Why? Because there are
schools out there that are making tremendous amount of
business from these sources. Let’s study a
specific form of marketing that can work for any school
in any city or town. Let’s review it in detail, and
then, you tell me if you have ever tried it in your
school or if you are still doing it!
Let’s look at Lead Boxes. You know what the
experts say! You don’t have to make someone join
your school on the first contact. Try to get them
interested by simply offering them free training without
any kind of attachment. If you are thinking free
never works, think twice. A lot of people are
intimidated by Martial Arts, if they only knew that they
were able to do it, they would love to try it. You
have to take out all entry barriers and encourage them
to give it a try.
Let’s review the 7 steps of getting new
students:
Step 1
Come up with an artwork followed by an actual lead
box. Talk to local business owners in preparation
of allowing you to place your lead box in their place of
business.
Step 2
Place Lead Box in appropriate places that reflect your
student body (Ages between 5 to 20, living in your
neighborhood, average income of $$$ or etc…). Out
of the following leads find the prospects who would be
interested to do martial arts only if……
Step 3
Call these prospects and invite them for free
introductory lessons, if they don’t show up, send them
emails or letters and tell them about the benefits of
your Martial Arts program or Martial Arts in general.
These are the groups who will be doing martial arts
sometimes in their life time, and lucky you that just
got a hold of them at almost no cost.
Step 4
Treat these groups like they were your best students
paying you $100 a month by giving them private lessons
or groups lessons, making follow up calls when they
don’t show up, or even sending them birth cards on their
birthday.
Step 5
Give them an incentive to join right away rather than
waiting for their final free lesson (Discounts could be
free uniform if they join right away or a free month of
lessons added to the end of membership)
Step 6
If they don’t join right away you still have 1 month
to convince them of how much they would benefit if they
continue their training. So don’t give up, still
pay attention as if they were your best paying students.
If you have taken all the steps and see that nothing
is working then try Step 7.
Step 7
One of the most important STEPS of all is to see which
step is not working. Rather than deciding that
Lead Boxes, or Birthday Parties are not working, check
to see which step of your process needs improvement.
Keeping statistics of what you do is very important.
Small businesses don’t have enough resources or time to
waste. In order to focus your energy in the right
direction you must systemize everything you do and you
must make your decisions out of stats and logic and not
emotion or excuses.
